🚇 City Rail Link stations — opening September 13

The City Rail Link (CRL) is not a separate line or a standalone system — it's a core part of Auckland's rail network, and every train that used to terminate at Waitematā now runs straight through it. The CRL is a 3.5km underground tunnel beneath the city centre, giving Auckland's trains a way to cross under the CBD instead of dead-ending at the surface. Two lines run through the tunnel: the East West Line and the South City Line.

The tunnel runs from a rebuilt Waitematā Station (formerly Britomart) beneath Albert Street and Mercury Lane, calling at Te Waihorotiu and Karanga-a-Hape before surfacing at Maungawhau (formerly Mt Eden). From there, trains continue on to the rest of the network above ground. The CRL opens Sunday September 13.
