Akoranga is the southernmost station on the Northern Busway — the first stop after the Auckland Harbour Bridge when heading north. It serves the communities of Northcote East and the western edge of Takapuna, and is directly connected to AUT's North Campus by a footbridge over the Northern Motorway. Akoranga has no park and ride — it is a drop-off and pick-up station with good connecting bus services to the surrounding North Shore suburbs.

🚌 The NX1 and NX2 Northern Express run through Akoranga every 3–5 minutes at peak times — no timetable needed. Simply arrive and the next bus will come. Both services run from 5:30am to midnight daily, with late-night services on Friday and Saturday.

Tuff Crater Reserve

An intriguing walk around the rim of a sunken volcanic crater — now a peaceful mangrove nature reserve. Access from St Peters Street or Exmouth Road. The full loop is approximately 5km and takes around an hour, following a mix of well-built boardwalks and formed tracks. A lookout at the St Peters Street entrance offers good views across the crater and surrounding area. "Really pleasant and easy little walking track — great for bird spotting." Some sections can be muddy. No public toilets on site. Free, open 24 hours.
