Manukau is South Auckland's major civic hub — a city centre in its own right, 38 minutes by train from Waitematā. The area is home to the Manukau Institute of Technology (MIT) campus, Auckland Council South offices, government agencies, the Manukau District Court and major retail in the form of Westfield Manukau and the Manukau Supa Centa. The station is also the southern terminus of the rail network and sits adjacent to Manukau Bus Station, a major interchange with 13 AT Metro routes and InterCity coaches to Hamilton, Tauranga, Rotorua, Taupō and Wellington.
