Manurewa is a large, established South Auckland suburb with a friendly town centre on Great South Road. A short distance from the station is the Manurewa Library, two well-regarded gyms, fresh seafood and a cluster of good local cafes and restaurants. About 15 minutes on foot — or a short bus ride on Route 366 — is Nathan Homestead, one of Auckland's finest historic houses set in beautiful gardens with the Pukepuke Café on site, and the Auckland Botanic Gardens a further 10 minutes walk beyond. Manurewa Station is also a significant bus interchange, with multiple routes connecting to Weymouth, Papakura, Wattle Downs and Ōtara.

Nathan Homestead and the Auckland Botanic Gardens are both about 15 minutes from the station by bus — a wonderful half-day outing combined.
A stunning historic homestead at 70 Hill Road — a beautifully preserved heritage house set in sweeping gardens, open to the public as an art gallery, event venue and community space. The grounds include lush lawns, flowerbeds, garden walkways, a free tennis court and a children's playground. The on-site Pukepuke Café serves excellent coffee, freshly baked scones with lashings of butter, and table service on the balcony overlooking the gardens. A wonderful outing by train. Open Mon–Sat.

One of Auckland's most beloved public gardens — 64 hectares of beautifully maintained themed gardens, tranquil lakes, walking paths, sculptures and seasonal blooms. Features New Zealand native plants alongside exotic collections, children's learning areas, a dog off-leash area, forested walking trails and a café. Take Route 366 from the station for a 12-minute bus ride direct to the gardens, or combine with a visit to Nathan Homestead — the gardens are a further 10-minute walk. Free entry, open daily 7am–6pm.

Right on Station Road, steps from the platform — "a hidden gem in the heart of Rewa." A small, homely Japanese restaurant run by a lovely couple, serving authentic ramen, udon, takoyaki and karaage. "Food made with love." Generous portions, reasonable prices and a complimentary tea and mochi ice cream after your meal. The squid skewers are outstanding. A unique find in South Auckland. A fresh seafood mart and takeaway right on Station Road — "the freshest seafood store in Auckland, full stop." Deep-fried snapper, mussels and scallops with crispy batter and not a drop of grease. Fresh salmon sashimi at reasonable prices, live crays and pāua also available. "Spotlessly clean, no fishy smell." Fry bread, smoked fish, raw fish — a genuinely comprehensive fish shop. Friendly, welcoming staff. Opens 9am daily (7:30am Sundays).
